I love trees!
I have always loved trees.
I like the cool shade they provide.
I love their stately looks (especially in the spring or fall).
I enjoy leaning against a big, old trunk, looking up at the sun filtering through the leaves.
I love wedging myself in the crook of several branches, while enjoying a good book (Ok, I don’t do that any more, but I used to!)
I could live in any old house if the street was lined with big arching trees. (Well, almost any.)
I spent a large amount of my childhood exploring the trees on our farm and in my rural neighborhood.
We have a lot of shade in our back yard and we can always enjoy it, no matter what time of day.
Our apricot tree finally died this winter, after a few years of floundering. It is now gone. (The small arrow shows the old trunk.) We will miss the pretty blossoms and the sweet apricots.
The other arrow points to our Chinese Elm tree (I know, they are junk trees), but we have so loved the shade this tree has provided.
The problem:
Every winter we seem to lose a lot of branches when we have a bad snow storm and we always lose power when the branches land on the electrical wires.
The tree drops millions of tiny seeds every spring, which then sprout and want to take over the yard.
Every time a strong wind blows I worry that the tree will come crashing through the windows and roof.
And,
a LOT of leaves litter the ground every fall.
We have been debating whether or not to cut it down. Tonight a tree specialist was supposed to come and give us a bid, but he didn’t show up, so I hope we don’t lose our courage while we wait for him to come again.
And then there is the cost…..
